By 2 AAA battery, do you
By 2 AAA battery, do you mean 2 regular AAA batteries wired up? If you do it is extremely bad idea as BIOS/CMOS batteries are made to recharge at an exact voltage, if you don’t mean this then sorry, please do ignore this comment altogether.
Very nice concept my friend,
Very nice concept my friend, a touch screen, like you said, is a must have for such a build.

If you want a good source
If you want a good source for LCD screens, check out http://www.millertech.com/computer-lcds.htm
That is where I got my screens for BSG. They have a 10.4” touch screen that is computer compatible (vga output).

Plans are to find a wooden multi game box with various board games. Else I will have to build myself. Plans are to cut out the top and install the LCD. The top of the box will have the checker board installed, when removed will reveal the LCD. I plan to use a simple menu to pick various board games. I also hope to find a touch screen overlay so using will be very simple.

Finished
Had boot problems and found the cmos battery was to small. Used 2 AAA and that fixed that. I was surprised that the cmos actually would post to 2008. This is an old 486SLC by Leading edge. It has a glorious 80 Meg hard drive. Floppy was only used to reload the machine. With the new batteries the grandkids should be able to play for a few hours. Yes that is duck tape but it is holding the display steady while the glue dries. This is a great use for a laptop that had little or no function anymore.

Laptop gut
Found that the battery is bad. Rebuilt with new Li cells. The base of the Laptop would not fit so it had to be cut down. Lcd inverter had to be remounted so it would have a good ground. I mounted it on the Hard Drive rail. Also ran a grounding strap just to make sure along with some good electrical tape under it so there is minimal chance of arching over. Did a test fit and it is going to work out ok.

Update: Found a good box to use.
Been looking for a couple of weeks. Finaly found a good game box to use. My Daughter had it the whole time and she has offered it for the project. The laptop I wanted to use has a bad floppy and you can only update the cmos via a setup.exe program. So I have decided to use the fallback. Only thing is I would rather of had the color screen. But my Grand-kids wont care anyway as they will be getting the most use out of it when its finished. A lot to finish today so stay tuned. Pun intended…

Yes I did mean 2 AAA’s.
Yes I did mean 2 AAA’s. The Leading Edge Laptops back in the 80’s did not use rechargeable’s. They used a 3v Button Battery to maintain cmos. The Buttons only lasted about 6 mos. The AAA’s would go about 2 years…
