VERY COOL! Nice job man. Good luck on the contest…

Excellent job on the mod,

Excellent job on the mod, Bruce! Must admit Batman ranks up in my top five comic characters and you made a very convincing looking bat-utility belt. ;)

As far as tools and injuries are concerned, I’d highly recommend a current tetanus shot for any budding modder. Glad I got mine!

Dude! nice stand, but I was

This PC was built as an entry in the comic challenge

Create your best mod featuring a brand, character (or characters), or theme from a comic book or graphic novel of your choice.

All entrants must be created from scratch for the contest

The contest will be judged by a panel of experts and esteemed judges and they will be basing their decision on the following criteria: craftsmanship, design, adherence to contest theme, and originality.

Here is my attempt. Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, stores his famous utility belt on a stand which might look something like this:

Specifications

CPU – Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 Ghz.
Liquid cooled with Thermaltake cooling system. Replaced their green with Koolance’s blue. Would have liked pure yellow but not readily available and I didn’t want to chance mixing my own.

Motherboard – ASUS P5E-VM HDMI Micro ATC. Great full featured mobo in a compact space. Can’t do SLI anyway so don’t miss the second x16 PCI slot.

Case parts taken from Antec 900 and Solo cases

RAMCorsair 2GB DDR 2. Don’t have the fastest or latest but 2GB is good.

Graphics Card – Invidia GeForce 8400 GS. It is the cheapest that supports Direct X10 but in this set-up only scores 1547 3DMarks. There is space for a much better card and I’ve made sure there is cooling to support a good GPU, but I had this left over from a previous project and didn’t want to rob from Treasure Chest or Ambient who are quite happy with their cards. Also waiting for the 9000 series to come down in price a little.

Hard Drive – Western Digital Caviar 500GB

Optical Drive – LG super multi

Power Supply – Corsair HX520W. Had to be because it is modular and the color scheme is Black and Yellow!

Operating System – Windows Vista Ultimate

Done, finished, complete

Good luck to everyone in the competition. I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with this rig now it is finished, but I’m very pleased with the end result. It is interesting looking back at the original sketch and how I underestimated the size of parts – in the final version Batman has a waist size of about 40", maybe this is the beer drinking Bruce  ...or is that me?!

Continued from below...

Had to head out to Fry’s and buy 3 80mm fans – variable speed and bright …orange. So had to spray these yellow and intall – two on top and one underneath, now I have plenty of airflow through the bag. Have also been messing with the lights – added a new pic (top left) of the rig lit up and under UV. Will be changing the bat light at the bottom to be more like the batman search light. Fussed around with some smaller UV lights tonight as well as spraying a keyboard. Will be updating pictures, sound, worklog and specs prior to the 22nd. Still lots to do!....

Triumph and disaster and back again

Moved the rig from the garage onto my desk, pride of place next to "ambient". Got it all fired up and Vista came back first time from when I’d installed with all the parts laid out separately (seems a long time ago!). Liquid cooling working well, had a few kinks in the pipe but cut some copper tubing and fixed this, then coated in black tape to keep the black and yellow scheme. Ran DMark and HW monitor and notice my GPU temps climbing. Hmmm… water cooling for the CPU but locking the GPU inside a black cloth bag with the mother board was not going to work.

Assassin's Creed

Put in a solid day on batman’s belt today. Really pleased with the progress. One possible hitch – Assassin’s Creed has finally come out on PC and I have a copy. This could be a huge distraction! Did manage to spray paint about forty nuts and bolts, cut a load of plastic and did a lot of sanding. Will hopefully get some more pictures up over the weekenf.
